Marvin Massey, co-owner of Carmel Martial Arts,
is a 6th degree Black Belt in Shorei Goju Ryu. Mr.
Massey has twenty three years of martial arts experience, and fourteen years of
teaching experience. In addition, Mr. Massey:
- Began martial arts training under Sensei John Radez San Dan Judo in 1980
- Received black belt from Hanshi Sensei
Herb Johnson 9th degree Black Belt
- Opened a school in Broad Ripple in 1991, teaching traditional karate, kick
boxing and Tai Chi and Qi Gong
- Taught many seminars in the art of personal self-defense, educating men,
women and children of all ages on the aspects of awareness and self-defense
- Gold Medalist and AAU National Champion
- Certified Reflexologist
- Reiki Master/Instructor
- Taught for Indianapolis Public Schools After School Program, Indianapolis
Parks department and Carmel Clay Extended Day Program
- Founder and operator of MM Kids Karate Club, Broad Ripple Martial Arts Academy, Marvin Massey School of Self-Defense, Massey Karate USA, and Carmel Martial Arts
- Trains local, state, national, international and Junior Olympic champions

Master Will Higginbotham, also co-owner of Carmel Martial Arts, is an 8th dan in Ryukyu.
He has been involved in Martial Arts training since September 16th, 1968.
In addition, Master Higginbotham:
- Began his first training class with the Vincennes University Karate Club as a freshman.
- Currently trains under Grandmaster George Dillman in Ryukyu Kempo.
- Trains under Professor Wally Jay in Small Circle Jujitsu.
- Also trains under Professor Remy Presas in Modern Arnis.
- Hosts seminars and camps all over the country, in addition to Indianapolis, on Ryukyu Kempo,
Small Circle Jujitsu and Modern Arnis.
- Developed and taught a credited pressure point self-defense course for
women at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.
- Currently teaching a credit course for Butler University in Pressure
Point Self Defense.
- Periodically offers classes through The National Institute for Fitness
& Sports.
- Featured in books and videos sold internationally by his instructor
George Dillman.
